Minecraft Edu (Flexible)

Minecraft is so flexible that it gives educators scope to use the game in different subjects, be it a history class building replicas of the great pyramids, or a science class building a simple machine. Kids can learn basic ideas and concepts on how to build machines, the basics of programming for kids, and, if they are loath math, it might be a fun way to improve calculation skills.

Geo Master (Geography)

GEO Master is a 3D geography game. This game has different learning modes. You have the opportunity to explore the globe, you can test your knowledge and then compare your score obtained during timed games on the whole planet or on the continent of your choice! Learn, remember and enter

 

Blokify (3D Modelling)

This app promotes creativity in 3D printing. This 3D modeling software enables children to create toys they can play on their smart phones and tablets or play with it physically after 3D printing their creations with one of their partners. Although not accessible for all, it’s pretty exciting stuff and teaches kids design thinking and visual design to spark their creativity.

Flute Master (Music)

Learn how to play recorder step by step with music tracks specifically composed for music education! The notes you play are detected over your computer's microphone, so that you can help Cornelius the dragon protect his tower of strawberries from the greedy bats.

Planeteers (Multiple Subjects)

While the other games featured here teach one or two STEAM skills, Planeteers is the first serious game that focuses in all aspects of STEAM education. Designed for grades 3 to 6, it teaches all major concepts from a comprehensive STEAM program, including important 21st century skills like engineering, coding, robotics, and design thinking in a highly immersive educational sandbox with real world physics, flora, and fauna.

Console Games

National Geographic Challenge! - PS3 (Geography)

-National Geographic Challenge! allows up to four players to compete for world domination. This is accomplished by answering questions about geography and history, and claiming territories as a result. The game features 4,000 questions presented in a number of different ways, with anagrams, puzzles, and riddles all available to play. The experience is augmented by 60 minutes of high-def video footage and hundreds of images related to the questions.

Dr. Kawashima's Brain and Body Exercises - Xbox 360 (Math)

Dr Kawashima's Brain and Body Exercises, known as Body and Brain Connection in the U.S., is an Xbox 360 exclusive that utilizes the full-body motion-sensing Kinect to help train both your body and brain. In terms of school lessons, this game combines physical education with basic mathematics. 

My Word Coach - Wii, DS (Language)

My Word Coach is a video game designed to help improve an individual's verbal communication skills and increase their vocabulary. As someone who is passionate about language and the written word, this game appeals on a personal level.

 

Scribblenauts Unlimited - WiiU (Creativity)

The game tasks you with solving problems in any way you see fit, with the words you write becoming real objects that can be used to manipulate the on-screen situation. This is a fantastic game for students of all ages; it fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and wordplay. There are hundreds of levels to work through, a cooperative multiplayer mode, and the chance to edit objects. Characters from the Super Mario series even make cameos.

Big Brain Academy - DS (Creativity)

Big Brain Academy has one goal at its core: to increase the size of your brain. This is achieved by you completing a number of challenges each day designed to get your gray matter working overtime. There are 15 different activities to perform, with different games available in each. The idea is to test yourself regularly and slowly build up the level of difficulty. These kinds of games are suitable for all ages, but Big Brain Academy is aimed primarily at younger children.
